Founded 35 years ago, engineering and construction firm Laing O’Rourke has so far weathered the recession in construction, having secured big projects such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Park. Sales dipped 3% to £2.9bn in 2012, but it expects them to rebound as it completes projects including London’s “Cheesegrater” skyscraper and Crossrail. The firm was founded by chairman Ray O’Rourke, 66, and is headquartered in Dartford, Kent.
