This company specialises in selling leather lounge suites. What started as a small shop in Croydon in 1993 has grown into a chain of 29 stores across the country. Land of Leather’s sales have grown at 74% a year, from £2.8m in 1996 to £14.7m in 1999. Frank Fox, finance director, says strong relationships with suppliers in Britain, China and the Pacific Rim ensure access to quality products at low prices. The Kent company is set to expand rapidly, with seven shops in Scotland due to open by the end of the year. It then plans to move into Northern Ireland and on to the Continent.
