Remotely monitoring fruit machines may not seem a sexy job – but one husband and wife have developed a good business by enabling pub owners to maintain and manage a range of leisure machines, from one-armed bandits to pool tables.
Founded by Brian and Denise Herrick in 1982, Leisuredata’s software and e-commerce systems enable pub owners to maximise their income from the machines. Sales have increased 111% a year, from £424,000 in 1998 to £1.9m in 2000.
The company has sold a 70% stake to Enterprise Inns, the pub chain.
