This historic football club bought two of the three most expensive players in its history in the summer, paying £33m for Belgian striker Christian Benteke and £28m for Brazilian midfielder Roberto Firmino —though this didn’t save the manager, Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked last week. It is also splashing out £100m to redevelop Anfield stadium, the club’s home since 1892. The investments come after a bigger TV broadcasting deal contributed towards sales growth of 24% to £255.8m in the year to May 2014. Tom Werner, 65, is chairman.
