This restaurant group has grown from two sites to 35 in four years, pushing up sales 99% a year, from an annualised £2.5m in 2001 to £19.5m in 2004. It operates three mid-market restaurant chains: The Living Room; the Bar & Grill; and Est Est Est. The firm was founded by Tim Bacon and Jeremy Roberts in 1999, and its growth was funded by a £2m investment in 2001 from Sagitta European Equity Partners. Sagitta exited earlier this year, when Living Ventures bought 19 Est Est Est restaurants from The Restaurant Group for £16.4m, which is expected to result in a doubling of sales. The latter now holds 40% of Living Ventures’ equity.
