It was while working as a stockbroker in Hong Kong that Alex Cresswell-Turner caught the bug for collecting Far Eastern furniture. He launched Lombok in 1998 with university friend Sarah Morison to design and import Indonesian furniture made of reclaimed wood. The company now has nine stores selling Vietnamese, Indonesian and South African furniture and a range of accessories. Getting its beds and other items to appear in style magazines has helped Lombok to reach its 28 to 40-year-old AB customers. It has grown sales 68% a year from £1.1m in 2001 to £5m in 2004.
