Lucite International

Baths, signs and even viewing panels for aquariums are made from the Perspex and Lucite brands of acrylic produced by this Southampton company since the 1930s. Charterhouse Development Capital bought the business from ICI for £505m in 1999, and sales grew to a record £780m in 2005 under chief executive Ian Lambert. Business has been boosted by demand from Asia, and Lucite International opened a £60m factory in Shanghai two years ago. Its eighteenth factory is expected to open in Singapore in 2008.
