The acrylics division of the chemicals giant ICI, Lucite International, was called Ineos Acrylics until a year ago. It was bought in 1999 for £505m by Charterhouse Development Capital. Today the Southampton company makes, among other things, plastic and materials such as Perspex, Lucite, resins and specialty additives. It reported sales of £582m in 2002, when the company had 1,993 employees.
