The cosmetics company defied difficult economic conditions in 2009, accelerating its international store opening programme. This Poole company, which sells bath and beauty products, opened 147 new shops last year, taking the total to 651 outlets in 43 countries. The business was founded by Mark and Margaret Constantine, Liz Bennett, Rowena Bird, Helen Ambrosen and Paul Greeves in 1994. It says that it uses only ethically sourced ingredients and that 90% of the packaging is made from recycled materials. Sales grew by 40% to £214.5m in 2009.
