While working as a property developer, Wayne Spriggs, 46, struggled to find mid-priced but expensive-looking bathrooms. In 2014, he took the initiative and designed a range of composite stone baths and sinks. Now, his Middlesbrough firm’s baths, sinks, showers and counter tops can be found in luxury homes and hotels from Claridge’s in Mayfair to the Sugar Beach resort on the Caribbean island of St Lucia. Profits have grown in the pandemic, reaching £6.8 million in the year to September. The company helped to source facemasks for a local hospital and hospice in Middlesbrough. Its profit margin of 41 per cent is among the highest on the league table.
