Metals group Luxfer produces pressurised gas cylinders for breathing apparatus, medical oxygen and industrial gases. It also processes metals such as zirconium and magnesium, and makes specialist alloys for the aerospace and defence markets from its 21 plants around the globe. The Salford-based firm was formed from a £200m management buy-in of Alcan Aluminium in 1996 with backing mainly from CVC and Morgan Grenfell. Run by chief executive Brian Purves, sales in 2007 were £212.7m.
