M-Sport started life in 1979 as the team for rally driver Malcolm Wilson. Since 1997 it has designed and developed Ford’s World Rally Championship rally cars, including the Focus that won the Manufacturers’ World Rally Championship in 2006 and 2007. The company also runs the Fiesta Sporting Trophy series, and is developing rally versions of the new Fiesta as well as running cars for other racing teams such as Stobart Motorsport. Profits at the Cumbrian firm have raced ahead 49% a year from £1.8m in 2005 to £6.1m in 2008.
