When an explosion disabled the primary bridge providing access for vehicles passing between two lakes in western Iraq in 2007, it was a Mabey-built bridge which was placed over the top of the existing bridge structure giving coalition forces more options to safely move equipment and personnel across the country. Founded in the 1940s, Mabey and Johnson design and manufacture a range of steel modular bridging with standardised and interchangeable components that are easily transported and erected. Other significant activities include specialist plant hire. The group is currently led by acting managing director Novin Doostdar and achieved sales of £177.3m in 2007.
