Manchester United

One of the world’s richest football clubs, Manchester United has lately enjoyed the most successful run in its 131-year history. It is also one of the most debt-laden clubs as a result of the £800m takeover by American Malcolm Glazer in 2005, and the company will have to start paying off its £667m debts in 2013. With new sponsors Aon and increasing TV and commercial revenues, the club continues to make big signings—it paid a reported £30.8m for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008. Under Glazer’s sons Joel, Avram and Bryan, sales hit £256.2m in 2008.
