This financial information services firm was co-founded in 2001 by Lance Uggla and executives responsible for credit trading at Toronto Dominion Bank. Markit provides independent data, valuations and trade processing services for the over-the-counter markets, including credit, equities, interest rates and foreign exchange. In January the private-equity house General Atlantic paid £155m for a 7.5% stake. Sales increased by 63% to £305.4m in 2009.
