Celebrating its centenary this year, Marshall Group has changed beyond recognition since it was founded as a chauffeur service for well-heeled students. Run by the founder’s grandson, Michael Marshall, the firm still operates a fleet of limousines but has grown over the years into a transport and engineering conglomerate. Its activities range from operating more than 40 car dealerships, to designing vehicles for the military and emergency services. It also services RAF Hercules transport planes, runs Marshall airport at Cambridge, and offers private aircraft charters using its own fleet of private jets. Sales grew to £724m in 2008.
