Marshall Group operates in sectors including aerospace, defence, property and motor retail. Its largest subsidiary is its listed car dealership division, which accounted for 78% of sales in 2015, and which acquired Ridgeway, a Newbury dealership group with 33 outlets, in a £107m deal in May. The Cambridge group is led by Robert Marshall, 53, who is the fourth generation of the Marshall family to run the business. His father, Sir Michael Marshall, 84, is chairman but will retire in October with Alex Dorrian, 69, deputy chairman, taking over.
