Martin-Baker says its aircraft ejection seats and survival equipment have saved more than 7,500 lives. Founded in 1934 as an aircraft manufacturer by Northern Irish engineer Sir James Martin and test pilot Captain Valentine Baker, the company, based near Uxbridge, has since expanded its operations to France, Italy and America, which is now its largest single market. It is headed by Martin’s twin sons, John and James, 74.
