Martin McColl

TM Group operates a network of 1,400 convenience stores across Britain, including the Martin’s, Forbuoys and McColl’s brands, and a small joint venture with Somerfield, started in 2003. Last year there was speculation that the company might be taken over by J Sainsbury or the Co-op, but then in August TM itself hit the acquisition trail when it paid Tesco £20m for the 181-strong chain of Dillons newsagents. The company is based in Brentwood and chaired by James Lancaster. Its sales reached £642m in 2004.
