Graham Gough and Martin Harris founded Maxxima in 2001 to compete against established companies in public-sector recruitment. The firm claims that it brings transparency to the medical and social-work sectors by advertising pay rates for replacement staff. Maxxima broke into these markets by specialising in difficult-to-fill vacancies such as biomedical scientists and therapy radiographers. With offices in London, Leicester, Bristol and Essex, it claims to have 200 local-authority and 400 NHS clients. Sales have swelled 196% a year from £287,000 in 2002 to £7.4m in 2005.
