McLaren merged its automotive and technology businesses last July to form this group, which had combined sales of £871m in 2017. Executive chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa al-Khalifa, 49, oversees its three divisions: racing, which owns the Formula One team; automotive, which manufactured its 15,000th car this year; and applied technologies, which develops software and components. In May, Canadian businessman Michael Latifi invested £204m in the Woking group, becoming its third-largest shareholder after Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund and Luxembourg’s Tag investment group.
