This 166-year-old County Antrim company has maintained its position despite the property slump in Ireland by focusing on its building and civil engineering work in the wider UK market. Projects include the £68m redevelopment of King’s College Hospital in London. Listed on the stock market in 1979, McLaughlin & Harvey was taken private in 1993 by Kenneth Cheevers. Although sales fell by 13% to £233.9m in 2018, profits rose 70% to £6.4m.
