Founded in 1949 by Pat McNicholas, the company contributed to post-war reconstruction by digging holes for cables and pipes. Today it installs and maintains telecoms, electricity, gas and water networks and is an established rail contractor. The group has also been contracted to build a number of wind farms across Britain, and is one of the first businesses in the country certified to report on its carbon footprint under the Carbon Emissions Management and Reduction Scheme. The firm posted sales of £181.6m in 2009.
