Starting life as Martin Dawes Telecommunications, this Warrington company became MDS in 1999 when it sold all its divisions, except IT, to BT. The firm carried on as a software developer and today, still chaired by Dawes, it creates platforms for telecoms clients to monitor operational processes and manage billing data. Investing 17% of its revenue each year in product development, profits grew 72% a year, from £810,000 in 2007 to £4.1m in 2010.
