In 2001, the infamous Love Bug virus was identified by MessageLabs Group, which consists of two companies – Star and MessageLab. Star began in 1995 as an internet service provider to small firms. Its core offering has since expanded to include managed hosting services, which allow customers to outsource their servers, networks and data storage to the group’s 10 offices worldwide. MessageLabs’ e-mail security portfolio now includes anti-spam filtering and content control for customers such as the British government, the Bank of New York and Orange. Sales have risen 59% a year from £16.7m in 2001 to £42.4m in 2003.
