The Bank of England, among others, can now screen its e-mails for pornographic content. The software to do this was developed by Message Labs, a spin-off company from Star Technology.
Star was started in a converted barn in 1995 by brothers Jos and Ben White, but the internet service provider has since moved to offices near Cirencester. Its sales have increased 102% a year, from £1.6m in 1998 to £6.6m in 2000, when it recorded significant losses.
