Micro-Fresh makes an antifungal and antibacterial coating to keep a range of everyday items fresh, from footwear to bedding to mother and baby products, stocked in retailers including John Lewis. The Leicester company generates 90% of its £10m sales overseas, and plans in the coming year to add three international offices to its existing seven. In 2015, it received an Innovate UK grant of £120,000 to prevent mould in plaster, and last year launched a not-for-profit initiative to support the product’s use in social housing. Founder Byron Dixon, 51, one of five children of a Jamaican immigrant, was awarded an OBE in 2018 for services to industry and innovation.
