Midas is a group of companies that specialise in property work, including construction and refurbishment, for customers like the NHS. The company was founded in 1976 as a regional builder in southwest England, but since a 1998 management buy-in, has taken on increasingly large projects. These include a 90,000 sq foot Tesco Extra, opened last year, which Midas claims is one of the largest stores in Devon. Its profits rose 50% a year from £1.6m in 2001 to £5.5m in 2004.
