Founder Marisa Hordern, 40, turned her childhood passion for gemstones into a London-based jewellery firm in 2008, and quips that it took a decade to become an overnight success. To strike a balance between the affordable and the luxurious, she made jewellery from semiprecious metals and stones. Missoma’s explosive growth is partly due to celebrity exposure, being seen on stars such as actress Margot Robbie and supermodel Gigi Hadid. The company attributes 70% of sales to Instagram, and concentrates on its e-commerce and social media strategy to attract new customers. Sales hit £12m in March, with a fifth of these coming from American consumers.
