Windsurfer Steve Spink started Mistral Internet in 1994 with a loan from his parents. Named after the Mediterranean wind, Mistral offers a range of internet services including connection, web hosting and consultancy to customers such as Microsoft, Sony Music and Bacardi Breezer. The Brighton company, now headed by chief executive Karl Robinson, has been profitable since its inception. Sales have grown 123% a year from £838,000 in 1999 to £4.2m in 2001.
