Steve Spink started Mistral Internet in 1994 in his bedroom. The Brighton company was named after the Mediterranean wind ideal for his hobby, windsurfing. Mistral offers a range of internet services – including connection, web hosting and consultancy – to customers such as Microsoft, Sony Music and Bacardi. The company, now headed by Karl Robinson, has raised its sales 91% a year from £596,000 in 1998 to £4.2m in 2001, when it employed 24 people.
