This company claims that its customers, which include British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, BMI, Opodo and Expedia, achieved sales of £1 billion last year after advertising on its websites. Cheapflights, which is based in London, pioneered online flight price comparison in 1996, and has since expanded into North America, continental Europe and Australasia. The company is paid when travellers click through to an airline or travel agent’s website or contact it by telephone. The firm is led by Chris Cuddy, chief executive, who claims that its websites are visited by 100m people each year. Profits have grown 105% a year from £632,000 in 2005 to £5.5m in 2008.
