After leaving the army, Grahame Montgomery Tomlinson rented and renovated an old pub to expand the cushion manufacturing business he began in London’s Hackney in 1958. He later sold that lease and used the money to buy a factory in Chester which he also used to make cushions. However, a downturn in sales forced him to move into furniture fabrics.
