Many weary motorists take time out at one of Moto’s 45 motorway service stations across the UK. Under chief executive Tim Moss, 55, the Bedfordshire company has become Britain’s biggest Costa Coffee franchisee and has struck deals with Greggs and Marks & Spencer. In 2015 the Universities Superannuation Scheme bought the firm for a reported £1.1bn. The private-equity firm CVC then acquired a 40% stake for a reported £400m. The firm successfully refinanced £560m of debt in March.
