This St Albans company more than quadrupled its network of petrol stations and forecourt shops when it bought the Murco chain last year for a reported £200m. The enlarged business saw turnover almost double to £442.5m and profits grow 228% to £14.7m in 2014, under chief executive William Bannister, 49. In June, private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice reportedly paid £500m to Patron Capital for the business, shortly after it snapped up a further 90 Shell stations, bringing its total to 373 sites.
