Neural Technologies has developed software, branded Minotaur, that uses pattern- recognition technology to help clients such as Orange, Sprint and Visa to detect fraud and manage risk.

It also claims to have made the headlines in South Africa when Minotaur was used to expose phone taps on prominent public figures. Neural Technologies says it is so confident of the value of its technology that it makes a risk-free proposal to customers – it offers to bill them only for a percentage of the savings that the software generates. This approach has helped the company to boost its sales by 60% a year from £1.4m in 2001 to £3.7m in 2003.
