The company is a familiar sight on Britain’s high streets, but a quarter of its £1.5bn annualised sales to March were generated overseas. It has 423 stores in Ireland and mainland Europe, and 126 franchised outlets in the Middle East, Far East, eastern Europe and Russia. In January, New Look appointed a Dane, Anders Kristiansen, 46, as chief executive to further this international expansion. He has experience in China, where he worked for one of the country’s largest fashion chains, Bestseller. Executive chairman Alistair McGeorge, 54, renegotiated £800m of debts in May.
