NG Bailey does work ranging from mechanical and electrical engineering to computer system design for clients that include BT, the airports operator BAA and the construction firm Taylor Woodrow. Its recent projects include the Wales Millennium Centre, Pier 6 at Heathrow airport’s Terminal 3 and the headquarters of Scottish National Heritage, which won an award for environmental sustainability. Yorkshire-based NG Bailey employs some 4,000 staff, and invests more than £4m a year in training them. It currently has more than 500 apprentices on training schemes. The company remains family-owned and is led by chief executive Mark Andrews. Its sales reached £492m in 2006.
