Noble Foods collects eggs from 350 farms across Britain, packs them, and delivers 72m each week, mainly to leading supermarket chains. Based in Tring in Hertfordshire, Noble was set up in 1920 by William Dean who sold eggs door-to-door. Its brands include Happy Egg Co, Big & Fresh, and Eggs for Soldiers, which supports the army charity Help for Heroes. Noble also processes poultry and owns the premium dessert manufacturers Gü and Didier’s Patisserie. The group says a surplus of eggs and rising animal-feed prices have reduced profitability, but under chairman Peter Dean – son of the founder, William – and chief executive Peter Thornton, sales increased to £594.7m in 2011.
