Based in Hemel Hempstead, Northgate Information Solutions provides outsourcing, IT and HR services to public-sector clients. In Britain it works closely with local authorities and police forces, processing 5.5m parking tickets and speeding fines, and providing the software for emergency calls. It also implements IT systems in schools and hospitals. The company claims that 40% of the UK working population is paid by its technology. Northgate was floated on the stock market in 1994, but was taken private by KKR, the American private equity house, in 2008 for a reported £593m. The new chief executive, Adel Al-Saleh, oversees business in 35 countries across five continents. Sales grew 22% to £816m in 2011.
