With 11 offices worldwide and plans to open in China and Singapore by the end of the year, Octopus Travel has an international perspective. It claims to offer hotel rooms in 3,300 cities in 112 countries at up to 70% off published prices. More than 40 airlines have links to its website, which is available in 22 languages and also offers sightseeing tours and airport transfers. David Babai, Edward Faith and Uzi Kattan, the team behind Gulliver’s Travel Associates, founded Octopus Travel in 2000. Sales have grown 198% a year from an annualised £2.3m in 2000 to £60m in 2003, mainly because more travellers are making their own arrangements rather than taking a package deal.
