This company now runs 200 cinemas with a total of 1,800 screens. Odeon was bought in 2004 by private equity firm Terra Firma and combined with rival United Cinemas International (UCI). Since then it has established itself as the largest operator in Europe. Its main markets are Britain, Spain, Italy and Germany, and it has additional operations in Ireland, Portugal and Austria. Under chief executive Rupert Gavin sales reached £548.1m in 2008.
