The next time your car is in the garage, the chances are it will be checked over with one of Omitec’s range of automotive testers. The company supplies similar technology to Formula One teams to identify faults on cars and tell the mechanics what they should do to fix them. John Watkins and Edward Lane led a management buyout of Omitec from OMI International in May 1998, with £1m of funding from 3i and Bank of Scotland. Sales at the Wiltshire company, which has increased its staff from 88 to 180 in the past year, grew 79% a year from an annualised £2.6m in 1999 to £8.3m in 2001.
