More than 1,500 organisations, including GoCardless, JustGiving and Deliveroo, use Onfido’s machine learning technology to verify the identity documents of prospective staff and customers. Chief operating officer Eamon Jubbawy, 25, and chief executive Husayn Kassai, 27, started the London firm in 2012 to help those without proof of ID – a figure the World Bank puts at 1.1bn people – access more online services. It has opened offices in the US and India as increasingly sophisticated frauds, and tighter industry and country-specific regulations drive demand. Onfido has raised more than $30m from venture capital and angel investors, including the founders of Lastminute.com, OneFineStay and BlaBlacar.
