Founded in 2002 by managing director Rob Bishop, 62, Optal issues Mastercardbranded payments products, aiming to simplify and reduce the cost of businessto-business payments in complex industries. Sales, which represents fees charged, grew to £177.7m in 2017 as it expanded the number of currencies in which it offers payments to 34, and saw increased demand due to a growing online travel market. It also acquired payment technology company Invapay last year for an undisclosed sum.
