John McNally switched to recruitment in the late 1980s when the recession hit his architectural practice. After running a construction labour agency with a partner, McNally set up Options Employment in 1996 to provide temporary workers to the construction, mechanical and electrical engineering sectors. Organic growth and four acquisitions since 1999 have helped sales at the south London company grow 124% a year from £5.1m in 1998 to £57.2m in 2001, when it employed 302 staff.
