Ed Mallinckrodt and Luke Taylor were working at the Internet Bookshop when two of its clients, Blackwells and Macmillan, decided they wanted to raise their web presence. Mallinckrodt and Taylor took on the job. Later, in 1995, they bought the web-design arm of the Internet Bookshop for £1, creating Oyster Partners. It now has clients such as British Telecommunications, Channel 4 and FPD Savills.

Sales have risen 150% a year, from £1.7m in 1998 to £10.5m in 2000.
