Palletways is a Staffordshire-based group focused on small consignments of express palletised freight. It has 100 distribution centres in Britain with local independent firms making the deliveries. Since 2005 the business has been expanding into Europe. In 2004 Phoenix Equity Partners backed a secondary buyout from 3i, for an undisclosed sum. Led by Palletways’ chief executive, James Wilson, sales fell to £139.6m in 2009 although profits rose to £2.4m.
