The food wholesaler Palmer & Harvey claims to make 55,000 deliveries each week of alcohol, tobacco, confectionery and ice cream to convenience stores, including 750 shopkeepers trading under its Mace and Your Store formats. The firm also owns the drinks distributor Winerite, a snacks delivery service, and an Epos specialist. Chairman Christopher Adams led a £172m management buyout in 2002 backed by Barclays and Burdale Financial. Last year Palmer & Harvey clinched a £40m deal to supply the Wine Cellar off-licence chain with all its alcohol. Despite price pressure, the Hove-based company’s sales and operating profits remained steady in 2005 at an annualised £3,467m and £24m respectively.
