This wholesaler, based in Hove, East Sussex, supplies convenience stores with 70,000 products, from cigarettes to ice cream. It also used to run 800 shops, but in March it struck a joint venture deal with rival Costcutter, which will take control of the shops. The move has created the UK’s second-largest convenience store player, trading as Mace, Supershop and Your Store. Palmer and Harvey will now focus on wholesaling and distribution. It is run by chief executive Chris Etherington, 60, who led a £298m management buyout in 2008.
